Earlier this month it was announced that non-skilled home care services will be included in the list of benefits for Medicare Advantage (MA) plans beginning in 2019. This final rule announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), indicates a growing need for home care services and recognizes in-home care as a solution to keep individuals safe and out of the hospital setting.
Medicare Advantage plans have grown 71% since 2010 and as of 2017, one in three people with Medicare is enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan - 19 million beneficiaries.
“The proposed updates will result in a payment increase that promotes stability and [ensures] that resources will be available to support beneficiaries enrolled in private Medicare plans,” CMS mentions.
