"How can I get my Mom to be willing to go to the doctor? She is very stubborn and rarely even takes an aspirin but I think she may be helped by some arthritis medication."
Well, there are a couple of tricks! If they are reporting something that is really of great concern you, as the adult child, can call their Doctor and tell them that Mom or Dad is reporting "XYZ." The physician's office can actually call your parent and tell them that the doctor wants to see them. Another thing you can do is to say, "Let's sit down and talk about these concerns." There are a lot of situations where a very simple Doctor visit and some appropriate medication can quickly get them back on track. I think you want to give them hope while helping them recognize the realities.
