Sound Options believes that exceptional care begins with exceptional employees. Each month, we highlight and share the story of one of our Certified Nursing Assistants who carries out the mission and values of Sound Options with professionalism, intelligence, and heart. This month, we shine the spotlight on Mary Njuguna.
Mary Njuguna was born and raised in Kenya. After her father passed away her mother raised all 6 children on her own and had all 6 children go to college. Mary remains very close to all of her siblings who have remained in Kenya. She came to the United Sates in September of 2012. Mary has a daughter of her own now who is in college and a son who is ten years old.
“When I came to the United States,” she said “I immediately started CAN school. I love working with different cultures. Each of my clients is so different.” When asked what being a good caregiver meant to her, Mary said that, “You have to be passionate and understanding. You must treat them as if you are caring for your own parents. You must be patient with an eagerness to really get to know your clients.”
When Mary is not working, you will find her in the kitchen where she loves to cook and spend time with her husband and children. Rebecca Herrick, the Home Care Supervisor, said, “I love Mary’s enthusiastic attitude. She is always willing to pick up a shift even at the last minute. Her belief in family values has carried her into the world of caregiving for elders. She is an outstanding caregiver, a self-starter, and motivating to watch with our clients.” Thank you for your work and the ways you represent Sound Options every day. We appreciate you Mary!
